What’s the most effective way of assessing and improving the maturity of your existing culture and employees?
Fundamentally your employees ARE your culture so the best approach is to listen to them.
For example, we use a Diagnostic Listening Sessions Process which will sample about 10-15% of your employees in small groups (say 6) or individually (e.g. senior leaders) face-to-face via the internet for about 1 hour per group using a small list of diagnostic questions agreed with you.
All views expressed to me will be treated as confidential and will not be attributed to anyone specifically.
No information shared with me will be censored or ‘edited’. I will share the outcomes of the sessions openly and honestly with all employees as verbatim as I can.
The views expressed by your employees will be reported back to you unedited by me in a 3-step cascade feedback process (i.e. Senior Leaders first; everyone else who participated second; all remaining employees next):
1. Descriptions – what were the verbatim responses of your employees to the questions? What did this ‘look in the mirror’ reveal?
Employees often say things to me that they would not say openly to Senior Leaders.
2. Interpretations – what did their answers mean? What lessons should we learn? What assessment of your culture and employee maturity emerged?
3. Suggestions – what will we choose do as a result? What should we not do? Why?
Being face-to-face this process reveals a lot that surveys and questionnaires cannot and the inclusive process builds mutual trust and respect. It is exceptional preparation for positive change and synergy in the re-invention of your business that AI may be requiring you to create.
If you visit my website: www.MentoringandMentorship.com you will be able to access an Example of a Proposal which contains more details of the Diagnostic Listening Sessions Process. The questions shown are illustrative and questions specific to the maturity of culture and employees
would replace them.

What is culture?
A dictionary defines culture as: the set of shared beliefs, attitudes, values and behavioural patterns characteristic of a group or an organisation.
Ok, we prefer the simpler: culture is the way we choose to do things around here.
The other key point we would stress is that culture is not an end in itself.
It is a means to an end.
What end?
The non-negotiable purpose of staying in business by beating the competition and exceeding stakeholders’ legitimate needs.
